Zamak metal elements are produced by casting. There may therefore be slight variations in the size of the thread opening, and the width of the leather strap or other material may also vary slightly. To simplify the threading through, the leather/tape should be slightly bevelled at the corners with scissors. The chamfered corners disappear later in a lock.
